The Loving Duke Family Has Been On The Moon For 40 Years…In A Way.

If you”re jealous of the family in your neighborhood with a timeshare in Delaware, imagine how envious you”d be of the Duke family. When their patriarch, Charles Duke, embarked on a mission to the moon on April 23, 1972, he brought his entire family along with him…in the form of a photograph.

When Duke and his partner, John Young, finished exploring the moon”s Descartes Highlands, he took out a photo he packed and placed it on the lunar surface before snapping a picture. While the Dukes were not there in person, a photograph of a photograph of you taken on the moon is still pretty cool. It beats taking a Polaroid of the pictures taken on a roller coaster and sold to you for an astronomical amount.

Like Charles Duke”s boot print, the family photo is likely still there today. That”s over 40 years on the moon for the Duke family. Well, for their photo, at least.
